May 11, 2007 - American actress Drew Barrymore has been named Ambassador Against Hunger for the United Nations' World Food Programme, it was announced on Wednesday.Barrymore, 32, who recently returned from a second trip to Kenya to visit WFP-supported school feeding projects, joins world marathon record-holder Paul Tergat, from Kenya, as an Ambassador Against Hunger.
Barrymore, Tergat and WFP's Executive Director, Josette Sheeran are in Washington this week to raise awareness about school feeding. They are campaigning for the passing of draft legislation in the US Congress that would expand and standardise funding for US-supported school feeding programs.
The McGovern-Dole International Food for Education and Child Nutrition Program feeds millions of schoolchildren each year. The pending legislation would increase funding from the current average of 100 million U.S. dollars (USD) a year, to about 300 million USD a year within five years.

The photographer-turned-full-time father told In Touch what's next for him and his bundle of joy. ITW asked - How is Dannielynn doing? "Great. She's eating well and sleeping well and bonding with family and friends."Nick Lachey and Vanessa Minnillo certainly seem like the perfect couple. The pair have reportedly taken their relationship to another level and of course there are always whispers of marriage and children. And with that comes responsibility and a new story that is set for this week's national Enquirer certainly seems to suggest they are more than responsible - they are heroes.
The A-list couple reportedly went above and beyond to help one of their neighbors that collapsed on an elevator in Gotham.
The weekly magazine reports: Singer Nick and live-in sweetie Vanessa moved fast when an older gentleman exited the elevator at their New York condo, clutched his chest- and collapsed at their feet!
The man reportedly was really suffering and barely able to speak. That's when he whispered he’d left his heart medication in his condo- so Nick grabbed his keys and took off as Vanessa dialed 911. The Enquirer story notes that the athletic Nick was back in a flash, fed the guy a pill and stayed until paramedics arrived. The man, a chronic angina sufferer, was hospitalized overnight and released.
And get this - In an ironic twist, it turns out he’d actually lobbied against Nick and Vanessa moving in because he’d feared loud parties, etc.- but now raves about the couple, calling them “my heroes!”
Scarlett Johansson reportedly burst into tears at a New York fundraiser on Monday night (07.05.07).
The blonde actress was seen sobbing in the toilets at the Metropolitan Museum's Costume Institute Gala, before being comforted by British designer Stella McCartney, it has been claimed.
A source told the newspaper: "She was crying to Stella. She was not hysterical or confused. It was about 10.30 pm, after Jennifer Hudson performed. They walked back from the bathroom together."
The reason for the 'Match Point' actress' tears is unknown. Scarlett, 22, and Stella McCartney chatted until Scarlett was ready to dry her eyes and rejoin the party.
