Tom Brokaw To Moderate Meet the Press Through Elections

Tom Brokaw To Moderate Meet the Press Through Elections

Retired ‘NBC Nightly News’ anchor Tom Brokaw has been chosen by the TV network to host ‘Meet the Press’ during the 2008 elections. The announcement was made by Brian Williams who hosted the show this week.

Meet the Press has been the best audience rated talk show in the US for the past years. The main reason for the show’s success has been its host, Tim Russert, who died on June 13 of a heart failure while recording voice-overs. Mr. Russert was one of the most popular TV hosts in the US and was equally appreciated both by the public, and by politicians alike. Continue reading---

Rock concerts 'damage art in historic houses' ? Is there any proof? Maybe! Duh!

The study by scientists at the State Hermitage Museum in St Petersburg suggests that concerts by the Rolling Stones, Sir Paul McCartney and others in the adjacent Winter Square may have shaved years off the life of priceless works of art housed there.
The museum's director Mikhail Piotrovsky says it is likely that buildings, books and statues have also been damaged by the concerts, warning that similar institutions across the world should take note.

Remembering Tim Russert

Russert was born in Buffalo, New York to Irish American Catholic parents Elizabeth ("Betty"), a homemaker, and Timothy Joseph "Big Russ" Russert, a sanitation worker and newspaper truck driver,[2]Publish Postan class="cite_braces">[3] who were married for 30 years and separated in 1976.[4] He was the second of four children; his sisters are Betty Ann ("B.A."), Kathleen ("Kathy") and Patricia ("Trish").[4] He received a Jesuit education[5] from Canisius High School in Buffalo.

He received his B.A. from John Carroll University and an honours Juris Doctor from Cleveland State University Cleveland-Marshall College of Law.[2] Russert commented on Meet the Press that he went to Woodstock, "in a Buffalo Bills jersey with a case of beer." While in law school, an official from his alma mater, John Carroll University, called Russert to ask if he could book some concerts for the school as he had done while a student. He agreed, but said he would need money because he was running out of money to pay for law school. One concert that Russert booked was headlined by a then-unknown singer, Bruce Springsteen, who charged $2,500 for the concert appearance. Russert told this story to Jay Leno when he was a guest on the The Tonight Show on NBC on June 6, 2006.[6]

Stella McCartney to support Lucy event

FASHION designer Stella McCartney today promised her support to Liverpool’s Field of Women event.

Uniting with the campaign against breast cancer, the daughter of Sir Paul McCartney and wife Linda, who died from the disease, met organisers at Lipa at the weekend and offered her backing.

The Field of Women event at Liverpool Cricket Ground on Sunday July 6 promises to be this year’s biggest charity event in the region.

Liverpool’s Linda McCartney Centre is calling for 10,000 people to register.

It is intended to be a show of strength for people affected directly or indirectly with breast cancer.

People will stand side by side to form the silhouette of a woman dubbed Lucy – an acronym for Listen Up, Check Yourself, designed to help raise awareness of breast cancer.
