JIMMY FALLON?

The poorly kept secret that Jimmy Fallon will be the next host of NBC's Late Night became official yesterday.

At a news conference at Rockefeller Center in New York City, the network announced that the former Saturday Night Live cast member will take the reins of the 12:30 a.m. talk show sometime next year -- the exact date remains uncertain.

Fallon will take over from Conan O'Brien, who is moving up to The Tonight Show, replacing Jay Leno also sometime next year.

"It's a comedian's dream to get this job, to work with writers and try to be funny every night," Fallon said. "I'm hoping to make it the best show, a great show, for everyone, [so they'll] choose me to fall asleep to."
NBC has yet to announce specific dates for the late-night transition, so it's unclear when Leno will sign off.
